REBEL SISTERS
In the late 60’s - early 70’s, as civil rights and laws where evolving, a group of nuns from L.A believed in gender equality, anti-racism, social equality, education, anti-war. With their rebel voice, these sisters challenged the notion of what a nun, and even more important, what a WOMAN should be.
These group of brave women, stood up and raised a loud voice (Corita Kent was part of this group), helping to change society while serving their community. The Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary represented many of GAVIRIA’s values and for this season, we payed tribute to them.
